At 9:42pm this evening I called the IRS to get my AGI for 2005 (my copies of the 2005 return have mysteriously disappeared). I fully expected to be greeted with a recording stating that the IRS was closed. On the contrary, the phones were fully manned. After navigating a few automated menus, I spoke with a very personable woman. Her exclusive task was to ask the nature of my call and route me to the appropriate representative, which she did very quickly. I was transferred, and five seconds later I was speaking with a friendly young man who quickly verified my ID and then provided me with the information I needed. Total time of the call was less than four minutes.
Wow. I don't know if the IRS is always like that or just during tax time, but I was nonetheless pleasantly surprised.

Holy Crap! Hokies win!!!
So I'm watching the Hokies play what was supposed to be basketball last night, and it's unbelievably frustrating. For 35 minutes it almost seemed like Seth Greenberg said, "Look, nobody drives to the basket. Those points are too easy." An ugly, ugly game by VT, and very hard to watch as a Hokie fan.
With the game being as crappy as it was, and me wanting to keep the amount of expletives I used to a minimum, with about 4:40 or so left in the game I changed channels, figuring that the game was over.
Last night I had a very short dream where some dude says to me, "Man, you should have watched the rest of the game. Virginia Tech won in overtime." When I awoke I thought, "nah, the game was way out of hand and Tech showed no desire or ability to turn things around." So I went back to sleep.
Checking out my bracket this morning, I noticed that VT wasn't crossed out in red. However, a bunch of the later games from yesterday weren't marked as green or red, so I figured Yahoo! just hadn't gotten around to updating my bracket yet. Curious to see who won, I headed over to ESPN. VT wins by two!!! Are you kidding me? It turns out that Illinois doesn't score in the final 4:28. Unbelievable!
As soon as I turn off the game, VT kicks it into gear and pulls out the win. Maybe I shouldn't watch the game at all on Sunday, seeing as I have them making the Sweet 16...
PS. My condolences to all you Oral Roberts fans. They made the 900-foot Jesus cry.

A Call for Draft Strategies
The 2007 Eastern League Baseball draft for The Teut's Whistlin' Dixies is this Saturday evening. Some late-season and off-season trades have netted me extra 4th and 6th round picks, and the following six keepers:
I have the 5th-overall pick in the supplemental draft and am not sure exactly how to approach things. I've always been mediocre to bad with pitching, so this year I'm leaning toward loading up with bats and trying to find some nice value in middle-tier starters, or get lucky with some late-round picks on a few younger guys.
The question, for those of you into fantasy baseball, is how would you approach this draft? Keep in mind that ELB is a points-based Head-to-Head league, so a lot of what makes a player a good rotisserie guy doesn't apply to head-to-head. As it stands, I think I'm looking at an Andruw Jones/Jermaine Dye/Jim Thome as my first pick to fill the DH slot, and an SP/1B in rounds 2 & 3, depending on who I think will fall to my 3rd pick. Pick up a SP/SP or SP/C or SP/2B in round 4, C or 2B in 5, and SP/RP or SP/SP in 6.
Does anyone have any suggestions? Any ideas on quality SPs who may be overlooked in the early rounds? Unfortunately I just don't have the time to do a lot of my own homework on this, so most of my info is based on little CBS blurbs and projections.
